Award for animated poetry shorts in Rome
4 december 2007
Bruised (Blauwblauw) by Sandy Claes & Daan Wampers and With my Quantum Stroke (Met mijn kwantorslag) by Pieter Vanluffelen finished joint first in the category 'best non-narrative film' at the Animation Film Festival I Castelli Animati in Rome (28 November – 2 December 2007)
The organisation of I Castelli Animati previously selected both animation shorts for the opening night of the festival which is hosted by the famous Cinecittà studios in the outskirts of Rome. All 15 shorts of the Animated Poetry-series were shown at the closing ceremony of the festival.
Animated Poetry is a collection of 15 animated shorts (about 2 minutes). Each film is an interpretation of a poem by a Flemish author and is directed by a young Flemish animator. The series has a wide variety in approaches and techniques because the animators were totally free in interpreting the poem they had chosen out of a longlist of 150.
Also at I Castelli Animati, Animated Poetry-producer Geert Van Goethem (S.O.I.L.) presented a workshop about the producer-director relation. Other official guests of the festival were David Silverman (director of The Simpsons), Michel Ocelot (known from Kirikou) and the famous Oscar Grillo.
Animated Poetry received funding from the Flanders Audiovisual Fund (VAF). The Flemish Foundation for Literature (VFL) also contributed to the project.
